Best books read in my book clubs
I have read and discussed about 90 books in the book clubs I host since 2019. Experiencing the different opinions of a diverse group of readers has been a highly enriching and rewarding experience for me.

The 100 Best Books of the 21st Century
As voted on by 503 novelists, nonfiction writers, poets, critics and other book lovers — with a little help from the staff of the New York Times Book Review.
I have picked ten books that have been most interesting to read and discuss (in no particular order). It makes me really happy when a book club discussion ends with a reader saying how much she enjoyed talking about a book that she didn’t like or would have never read if I had not suggested it or when a readers comes to the discussion to hear what the others have to say, even if she didn’t want to read the book.
One of my favorite book quotes is
“That's the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.”
by Jhumpa Lahiri, The Namesake
For me this travel to different life experiences and realities is most rewarding.
My ten favorite book club books (in no particular order):
Americanah Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
The Vanishing Half Brit Bennett
Educated Tara Westover
Demon Copperhead Barbara Kingsolver
Hamnet Maggie O'Farrell
The Years Annie Ernaux
The White Tiger Aravind Adiga
Primeval and Other Times Olga Tokarczuk
The Copenhagen Trilogy Tove Ditlevsen
Blutbuch Kim de l'Horizon

I host an English book club for women with the Frauenakademie, the Women’s Academy of the Ulmer Volkshochschule. The Ulmer Volkshochschule is a public adult education institution here in Ulm, Germany, that promotes Lifelong Learning, Diversity and Inclusion and Cultural Exchange.
Our book club meets every 4-6 weeks four times each semester online via Zoom for 75 minutes and we discuss four books. You are welcome to join even if you not live in Ulm.
