dear patti
this is
a poetic welcome
to Ulm
for your performance
on June 23
from a fellow poet
and book lover
willkommen
dear patti,
this is
the forest
next to the venue
Kloster Wiblingen
with old trees
that have many stories
to tell
if these trees could talk they would tell us of hard times and of good times too
dear patti,
this is
a beaver
I saw by the Iller river
right next to those trees
and also
one of my first
poems
lost in thought I walk a gift of joyful wildlife I feel elated
dear patti,
this is
a sparrow
on top of the Münster
a reminder to be humble
and learn by example
from the wisdom
of nature
small humble sparrow makes do with what he can find while singing along
dear patti,
this is
the Löwenmensch
one of the oldest works of art
ever created
for thousands of years nature has inspired art beautiful planet my duties must rest I sit and make, create art for fun, just because
dear patti,
this is
the Blautopf
a magical place
stop by if you can
dear patti,
this is
the Hochsträß
sometimes you see the Alps
from up here
I come here to be alone
to listen to books
to think of people I miss
and to find inspiration
daybreak silent salute generous eastern souls bequeathed us their precious sun
dear patti,
this is
my favorite lake
I swim here in winter
sometimes breaking the ice
emerge cold liquid infusing calm energy melting away hot anxiety renewed
dear patti,
this my other favorite lake
I swim here in summer
from one water lily to the next
morning quiet lake just for me empty spaces fill my soul
dear patti,
this is
a Brezel
don't leave Ulm
without trying one
