how it started
I have been writing since I was a child, first for fun, mostly short stories, later for work, marketing materials, articles, proposals, business plans, web content and of course letters but never poetry. In early 2020 I joined a local writing workshop and shared my first haiku on Instagram on April 16, 2020.
A few days later I listened to an Instagram live conversation between
and Azure Antoinette. They invited poets to send in poems for National Poetry Month and I sent in this poem.how it’s going
Through Azure’s Writing Salons I met women writers that have now become my friends from all over the world: Ellen Rowland, Karen Fraser, Diana Wiese, Heidi Behr, Mary Beth Kaplan and Jennifer Henry. Later Azida Zainal and Martha Skogen joined our group.
We are in touch almost every day, share our poems but also everything else going on in our lives.
My poems have been published in more than 20 anthologies, journals and blogs.
In my first collection Cold Water Poems I invite you to read about my cold water adventures and maybe inspire you to find your own.
I’m co-editing Facing Goodbye - a poetry anthology for
with Jane Hanson and co-editing an anthology with our women’s writing group.I volunteer for The Wee Sparrow Poetry Press and Consilience Journal.
I was a guest on The Wee Sparrow Poetry Podcast in Episode 17 and chatted with the wonderful The Wee Sparrow Poetry Press EIC Claire Thom about my Cold Water Poems, my creative process, my journey into poetry, the upcoming Facing Goodbye poetry anthology and much more.
You can listen to the episode here on Substack or on Spotify
Thank you for being with me on this journey, thank you for reading my words and for sharing and publishing them. I would have never imagined that someday I would be a poet or swim in cold water.
To celebrate I will go to see
@elizabeth_gilbert_writer speak in Köln next week with some of my poet friends.challenge: swim in 24 different bodies of water in 24
